21. November 2020 15:00:00
Viking M/S Grace, heading from Stockholm to Turku, ran aground outside of Mariehamn on the Åland Islands around 2pm today on Saturday the 21th of November.
According to Viking Line the accident was caused by very heavy winds. No leaks has been reported and the passengers are not in any immediate danger, according to Viking Line. The West Finland Coast Guard says that no decision has been made regarding passenger evacuations yet.
Ahola Transport does not have many units onboard this departure, but this will likely lead to the vessel being out of service for a while. Because of this, there will be a lack of ferry capacity and disruptions in the freight traffic in the coming weeks.
We are monitoring the situation closely and we will keep you updated as the situation is developing.
